There comes a moment when you simply know: That season is over.

To everything there is a season,

A time for every purpose under heaven: (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NKJV)

When I returned home from a much-needed cruise, I realized something had shifted. Before I unpacked my suitcase, before I settled back into routine, I made a decision.

After nearly 15 years of wearing my natural hair, I relaxed it.

To some, it’s just hair.

To me, it became a prophetic reminder.

Sometimes we spend so much time asking God for a sign that we overlook the quiet confidence He places in our spirit. There wasn’t a dramatic announcement from heaven. There was simply a settled knowing that the season had come to an end.

Not every ending is painful.

Not every change is a crisis.

Some changes are simply the evidence that you have outgrown a previous season.

I’ve learned that what once fit your life may no longer fit your next assignment. Holding on to yesterday simply because it has become familiar can keep you from embracing what God is doing today.

Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is “a time for every purpose under heaven.” Seasons are meant to be honored but they are also meant to end.

I wonder how many people are praying for “new” while still clinging to what has already served its purpose.

Maybe this is your reminder:

You don’t have to apologize for outgrowing a season.

You don’t have to explain every decision to people who only knew the previous version of you. And you don’t have to fear change when God is the One leading it.

Sometimes the most prophetic thing you can do is recognize that grace has lifted from one season so you can walk confidently into the next.
