Before the Fall, There Was a Breach

One of the things I appreciate about studying the Hebrew calendar is that it reminds us of spiritual principles we should never forget.

The month of Tammuz is associated with some of Israel’s most painful moments. One of those moments was the breach in Jerusalem’s walls. Long before the city was destroyed, the walls were compromised.

That thought arrested me.

Jerusalem didn’t fall in a single day. It first developed a breach.

Isn’t that often how the enemy works? He rarely begins with complete destruction. He looks for a small opening.

It could be:

A neglected prayer life.

An unresolved offense.

A little compromise.

A quiet disappointment.

A distraction we never dealt with.

A wound we refused to surrender to God.

We often focus on the visible collapse, while God is calling our attention to the invisible breach.

The wisest man who ever lived understood this when he wrote:

“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)

Notice Solomon didn’t tell us to guard our money, our reputation, or even our ministry.

He said, guard your heart.

Why?

Because whatever gains access to your heart will eventually influence your words, your decisions, your relationships, and your direction.

This is why David prayed:

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)

He knew that transformation begins within. I believe this is a timely reminder for us. Don’t wait until something falls apart to inspect the walls of your heart.

Ask yourself:

* Is there any offense I have allowed to remain?

* Have disappointment or fear found a place in me?

* Am I becoming distracted from what God has asked me to do?

* Is my passion for God’s presence as strong as it once was?

God is not revealing breaches to shame us. He reveals them so He can repair them.

Isaiah 58:12 declares that God’s people shall be called “Repairers of the Breach.”

That means our story doesn’t end with broken walls. Through God’s grace, it can end with restoration.

Today’s Prophetic Pause

Don’t ignore the small cracks.

The enemy looks for openings, but God is looking for surrendered hearts.

Guard your heart.
